We have had 2 visits this week to the Life Education bus to learn about the Circulatory System- and to catch up with Harold! Here's a video showing some of the information that the children learnt, plus a song by Harold. Viking Gods Presentation

Chris, Charlie and Ana's Presentation

Viking gods
The vikings worshipped many pagan gods. The gods each had a different personality.

Odin was the ruler of the gods, the ruler of magic, poetry and war.
Odin gave his eye to gain more knowledge.
The name Wednesday comes from Odin’s day.

Loki is the god of fire.
He can change shape of things around him.
He could trick gods to give them their weapons

Thor is the son of Odin.
Thursday originally meant Thors day.
Thor was very popular with
the Vikings, they often wore
his hammer pendant around
their neck.

Goddesses and Gods
Freyja
Freyja was goddess of love and fertility.
Freyja wept in golden tears then she was unhappy.
The vikings believed that the gods ruled the world.

Freyr
God of Plenty,
Freyjas twin brother travelled in a boat big enough to hold all of the gods but which also folded up and could fit in his pocket.

Tyr
The original god of war and the patron god of justice, before Odin
He is the boldest of the gods, who inspires courage and heroism in battle.
Tyr was a man with one hand, because his right hand was bitten off by the gigantic wolf.
Tuesday used to be called Tyrs Day.

Magic Memories

The Alzheimers Society have asked people to share a special memory about an older person, so this has been our writing focus for the week. The children wrote and then published their stories today, some funny and some sad, but all written with real feeling and Mrs Flood and I were really touched by them. Here are some of the stories.

My Grandfather

My Grandfathers name is Ronald but we call him Ronald Mcdonald. He wears patterned sweatshirts, baggy trousers and wooly socks that stink. He has white soft hair, brown sparkly eyes. My Grandfather does not smile but uses his eyes to twinkle with happiness. The best memory is when I would sit on his lap and he would have his legs spread out and at the right time he would let them go and I would tumble to the ground and after I would hop back on his lap and he would bounce me and tickle me at the same time. The other memory is when I would get a sneaky lollies.
Now my Grandfather is living in a rest home because he has Alzheimers so if he could remember our best memory he would have a twinkle in his eye. The last time we visited him he said hello and bye for the first time in 3yrs.

By Chelsea Martin and dedicated to my Grandfather Ronald Mcdonald.

Writing Instructions

The last task in our instructions focus was for the children to read a story of how some children made chalk and then turn these into clear and concise instructions, working in pairs. The children had to include everything that we have learnt about instructions: A title, an optional introductory statement or questions, subheadings, resources needed, bullet points and numbers, clear sections, short senetnces starting with verbs, pictures and tips or suggestions. These then had to be published on A2 paper. They did a really great job.
