Statistics

Today we completed our staistics unit, with an assessment. Our class library cards were laid out on the floor and the children had to complete a tally chart of the colours, graph the results, deciding on the scale to use, label the axis, give it a title, and then make statements about the graph. The challenge was working independently, with no help!

Fabulous Year 4 !

Once a week we like to get together with our Year 4 friends in Room 15 to get some excercise! While it's hot this term, we'll go for a quick walk in Harling Park, and as it cools off next term, we'll start practising for the Cross Country! We'll do other things together from time to time, like art projects, or technology challenges, and of course we have our trip to Whites Bay to look forward too!

Maths Groups

We started working in maths groups this week. We'll be concentrating on Number (addition and subtraction) strategies for the next 4 weeks. Here are Jane and Harrison from the Circles group. This week they were working on always adding the smaller number to a bigger number, even when the smaller number is given first. We also looked at quick recall of Basic Facts.

Gmail!

Finally, everyone in Room 18 has a Gmail account! If they would like to, and are allowed, they are very welcome to sign in at home and have a look around. You might like to have a look too! Thank you Sophie, for letting me use your account as an example. You can see that their gmail address is their name followed by the first letter of their surname. Then they need to put in their password. I have a list of their passwords if they forget. It won't take them too long to remember.

Once they are logged in they can have a look at their inbox and delete the first few emails that come in when you set up as new account. They could try sending an email, to a friend, family member or me, if they like.
At the top right hand part of the screen are 9 small squares. If they click on these, they can click on their Drive.

This is where they where they will find the tasks that I set them on Hapara, and also where they can create their own documents. They can do any work they like at home, but I will only be able to see it, if it is in one of the three folders.

If they open the inquiry folder, they will find the first task. It is very simple, but should give them a chance to get used to the Drive. This is not homework, but they are welcome to do it at home, if they wish. No pressure!!!!!

Tests, tests and more tests!

There have been a lots of tests over the last week, but the end is in sight with just a few to go! There's been lots of Art, fitness, games and other activities, so it's not been all bad- and amazingly some children actually seem to enjoy tests! Next week I am looking forward to getting our maths, reading and writing programmes underway.

First swim of the summer!

We had our first swim of the summer, in the school pool today. We couldn't believe that it was 27 degrees at 9.30! That's all thanks to the new pool cover. Thanks Mr Western for getting the pool up and running for us- we really appreciate it.

Try Luke's Skylander Quiz!

You will only be able to see the children's quizzes if your child logs in to their gmail account. This is so that only people using a Witherlea School gmail account can fill in the survey. The reason for this is that the children can see the responses to their quiz in their Google Drive and I want to ensure that all answers are appropriate. All responses are linked to a Witherlea School gmail account.

Teamwork!

We've been spending a lot of time with Room 15 this week, doing a whole range of physical and mental teamwork activities. Here are photos from the "chair challenge" we did this afternoon! the winning team felt that what they did well was to listen to each other, not argue, watch each other carefully and not try to place the chairs too far apart!

look at our beans!

Room 18 have done a great job taking care of their bean plants. Now it's time to take them home and plant them in the garden and, hopefully, in a month or so, they might even grow some tasty beans to eat!
