Pictograms and Bar Graphs

Today we begun a statistics unit. We started with some raw data....

We thought about the best way to organise and count the crayons and some people 
suggested doing this:

There was a better way of presenting the information, so that we would be able to quickly compare the number of each other and we came up with this Picogram.


We talked about the importance of labelling the axis, clear numbering, and having a title for the graph. We tried to make some really clear and precise statements about what we noticed, using mathematical language.

Then the children turned the Pitcogram into Bar Graphs.
