Safe Kids

Today we had a visit from Kathryn Halstead from St Johns for the Safe Kids programme. She reminded us about how to dial 111. Here is a perfect example of what to do.

The children also got to practise putting on a bandage and putting someone into the recovery position.

Only rain in the drain!

Today Anna Crowe visited us for our last session about our local rivers and streams. She told us about where the water ends up that goes down our sinks and drains. We were pretty surprised to learn that the water that goes down the drains in the roads, goes straight to the river and then the sea and does not go to the water treatment plant in Riverlands. Anna told us that that is why nothing except rain water should go in the drains, because anything else is causing harm to our rivers and to the life that lives there.

Landscape Sketch

As we didn't manage to get our Landscape Sketch done at Pine Valley (it was hard to see the mountains through all the cloud!) we made the most of the beautiful Marlborough blue sky day, to take a trip to Harling Park with our sketch books this afternoon (plus hats, sunblock and water bottles!) We will be turning these into Landscape Art later this week.

Back to business...!

Wow the kids have been amazing this week! You might think that they would be unsettled after the events on Sunday/Monday, but they came in on Tuesday super calm and settled and ready for school! We have spent the last few days just getting back to a normal routine after all the camp/earthquake disruption and trying to finish off our Pine Valley study. The children have also been busy writing thank yous to parent helpers and to the experts who visited us on camp - Anna and Brigid. Oh, and we also had a new student to welcome on Wednesday: Brucie - who has come from Hamilton.
Here are some of the wonderful letters:

What a fantastic camp!

We had such an awesome time on our Pine Valley camp, despite a little bit of rain!
The kids were amazing and of course it wouldn't have been possible
without the fabulous parents who came along :-)
Here are a just a few photos.
I have shared the rest with the children on their Drives.
